Get ready for some festive fun with lots going on in Chew Valley this Christmas. From Christmas markets to twinkling lights, there’s something for everyone.

Friday 1st December

Pensford Nativity Trail – open 6-9.30pm every Friday, Saturday & Sunday until Christmas. Maps in village lock-up. A star is lit on the church tower whenever the trail is open.

Christmas Wreath Making – 7-10pm East Harptree Theatre. Buy tickets here: £35.

Saturday 2nd December

Publow Christmas Church Market

Blagdon Christmas Fair – 10am-12 St Andrews Church. Father Christmas is coming! All welcome.

Christmas Trolls – A lively and interactive family show from Valley Arts Centre. 11am Chew Stoke. More details here.

Chew Magna Christmas Fayre –  from 2.15pm – Christmas market with lots of activities, Santa and Christmas lights switch on.

Light Up Dundry –  4pm

Sunday 3rd December

Dick Whittington Panto – Sutton Theatre Group present this year’s panto performance! Shows at 2.30pm and 7.30pm at Bishop Sutton Village Hall. Details and tickets available here.

Children’s Christmas Fair – Just good old fashioned fun for the kids! (And some treats for the big kids too…!) 1-4pm Bishop Sutton Village Hall.

Saturday 9th December

Winter Serenity Retreat – At Yoga Chew Valley. Immerse yourself in the beauty of the season, allowing you to find inner renewal and embrace the winds of change. Find out more and book.

Christmas Fair – The Crown, Regil 12-4pm. A fun filled afternoon for the whole family to enjoy, get into the Christmas spirit and do some Christmas shopping with lovely local sellers and craft stalls.

Sunday 10th December

A Christmas Celebration! – Puppets, theatre and music with festive classics from Valley Arts Centre. 11am Chew Magna. More details here.

Friday 15th December

Little City Christmas Special – Festive themed role play sessions for toddlers and preschoolers, 9.25am and 11.05am Pensford Memorial Hall. Prebooking essential.

Friday 15th & Saturday 16th December

Volunteer Tree Planting at Great Avon Wood – spend the day outdoors tree planting with Avon Needs Trees, in the spirit of ‘a tree for a tree’. 10am-3pm in Pensford. Book here.

Saturday 16th December

Breakfast with Santa – 10am-12pm at Ring O’Bells, Compton Martin.

Sunday 17th December

Mummers Play – The Becket Mummers present a Chew Valley tradition, as was performed in Chew Valley villages in ye olden times at Christmas. Pensford: Outside the Rising Sun pub at 6.30pm and the George & Dragon Pub 6.45pm. Free.

Carols around the tree – with mince pies and mulled wine. Children can bring a homemade decoration for the tree to be entered in a competition drawn on Christmas Eve. 6pm on the Barbury, outside the Ring O’Bells, Hinton Blewitt

Tuesday 19th December

Festive open mic night – at The Pony Chew Magna. Whether you’re a seasoned performer or a first-timer, this is your chance to shine brighter than Rudolf’s nose. Reserve a spot or turn up on the night. Organised by Valley Arts.

Wednesday 20th December

Kids Cupcake Workshop – The Rising Sun, Pensford

Thursday 21st December

Big Christmas Quiz – from 8pm at Ring O’Bells, Compton Martin. Max teams of 6.

Christmas Eve, Sunday 24th December

Christmas Eve Tractor Express – see Mr and Mrs Claus journey through the Chew Valley by tractor, bringing joy and fundraising.

Crib and Candle – A very family friendly service at 6pm, St Margaret’s, Hinton Blewitt. Please bring along a teddy to take part in the service. Ideally, a donkey, sheep, camel, dog, pigeon, cow or cockerel – although any favourite soft toy is of course welcome.

New Year’s Eve Red Party – Supper club from 7pm and DJ from 9pm at Ring O’Bells, Compton Martin. Dress code: Red. £55 per person.

New Year’s Eve Party – Silent disco, fireworks, canapes and bubbles at The Stoke Inn. Get in touch to book tickets.

Thursday 4th January

Living Spit’s A Christmas Carol – Comedy retelling by local favourites. 7.30pm Compton Martin. More details here.
